Membership at IKAR

We’re living through surreal times; physically apart but spiritually together. Like all communities, this pandemic and national upheaval have affected ours deeply. And yet, we are finding ways to show up for one another, and still be in community, albeit virtually. Now, and always, our clergy, leadership, and staff are here to guide and support us as we navigate these uncharted waters.

Membership at IKAR is a holy partnership. We are dedicated to helping our community members live lives of purpose and meaning, and we are working together to build a more just and loving world. Together we are building a vibrant, creative, meaningful Jewish community.

All IKAR members enter into a brit, a covenant, in which you commit to participating in four core areas of Jewish communal life:

  • Engage in Jewish learning;
  • Help build a sense of community;
  • Work toward justice in our city, country, Israel, and the world through Minyan Tzedek, our social justice network;
  • Build and sustain our community with tzedakah, a meaningful financial contribution.

This form will allow you to make your financial contribution. After doing so, you will be prompted to submit your other brit commitments. To view your membership history, please log in to the membership portal. Some, but not all, of your information may be prepopulated if logged into the portal.

Now more than ever, we rely on our community’s membership contributions to sustain and run our organization. If you have the means to increase your membership contributions, we encourage you to become a sustainer by selecting the Abettor or Co-Conspirator level. We also know that these times have brought unprecedented challenges for many, not only physically and spiritually, but also financially. In light of that, we are not increasing membership contributions levels from 2019. In fact, if you renew by June 29, 2020, you will pay 2018 levels. As always, if you are unable to afford the suggested contribution amounts, we ask that you designate a meaningful and comfortable contribution through our Ezra process.

Please Note:
Our 5781 membership cycle runs from July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021.

Membership has always included IKARds (entrance cards) for the High Holy Days. As we face the uncertainty of the months ahead, know that we may need to restrict High Holy Day attendance to members, or otherwise limit or suspend gathering in person, subject to local and state regulations, and other health and safety considerations.

Given our limited space, individual membership includes one adult IKARd. Couple memberships include IKARds for two adults. Family memberships include IKARds for two adults and any children in the household through college. This year, registration for High Holy Day children's programming is free for members.

Our Associate Membership is designed for those who have been joining us electronically. If you live out of town or belong to another community in Los Angeles, the Associate level is meant for you. Please note: Associate Membership does not include High Holy Day entrance cards.

Thank you for joining us in our efforts to do good and important work in the world.
